JBA make fast start in PE

JBA's star-studded lineup made a perfect start in day one of the Men’s Perfect Delivery Open Inter-District in Port Elizabeth.

JBA opened up with 21 points from the available 24 thanks to big wins over Kingfisher and then hosts Eastern Province.

Led by Jason Evans and Gerry Baker, the JBA side was also tipped to be the team to beat and made good on those pre-tournament predictions through two matches in the Blue Section.

It was a dramatic final end on Monday afternoon which allowed JBA to claim 9.5 points in the win over EP.

In second place, Western Province bounced back from their opening match loss (5-7 to Sedibeng) to finish in second for the day thanks to a big win over neighbours Boland.

WP, skipped by Eugene Ferreira and Nic Rusling, romped to a 10.5-1.5 win in the afternoon to steady the ship.

Sedibeng are third with 15 points.

In the Red section, Port Natal fired well on day one to start with 21 points for themselves.

10 points against the Northern Cape was backed up by 11 points against the highly-rated Natal Inland outfit to end a great day for Port Natal.

Southern Free State are second with 19 points as the gap opened up to third-placed Northern Free State, who accumulated 14.5 points from their opening day efforts.

In the Women’s Open section, Natal Inland have 18.5 points to lead after day one’s play as Northern Cape chase them just 1.5 points behind.

In the Blue section, North West lead the way with 19 points with WP in fourth with 15 points. That leaves Boland (17 points) and Mpumalanga (15.5 points) all in a tussle for the top two spots that secures either a match in the gold medal contest on Friday or a bronze medal which goes to the team finishing second in the section.
