Mixed start for SA pair in Guernsey

Jason Evans and Esme Haley have some work to do after the opening matches at the 2024 World Indoor Bowls Championships in Guernsey.

You can follow the results here.

Both Evans and Haley as well as their partnership in the mixed pairs have won a game and lost a game through the opening stages of the event.

Of course, the pair have suffered the major inconvenience of not having their bags arrive with them as well as having limited time to practice of the indoor surface.

But the pair, who won their spot in this competition by virtue of their success at the 2024 BSA Masters, have shown their tenacity in the first few matches.

Evans, who won bronze in the singles as well as the mixed pairs in 2022, lost to England’s unbeaten Harry Goodwin in straight sets to drop to third in section 5.

Haley lost to Scotland’s Natalie McWilliams to sit in second place in her section after two matches.

The JBA star plays Turkey late on Tuesday afternoon in her next singles outing.

The Mixed Pairs has fared in the same fashion as the South Africans were shocked by Japan in game one before bouncing back in game two.

They will face Turkey on Tuesday in a match that will allow them to build a lot of confidence.
