Protea ace Scheepers on track at Durbanville

Proteas skip Anneke Scheepers has progressed to the Last 16 of the Singles at the 2024 BSA Women’s Nationals at Durbanville Bowling Club.

Scheepers have been a long-standing member of the South African side and skipped the fours to back to back medals at the Commonwealth Games. She fell agonisingly short at the 2023 BSA Masters held in Cape Town but is now on track in her home province.

The soft-spoken but always professional right-hander was in the zone in her playoff match against Karen Hardy (Underberg, NIB) as she advanced with a scoreline of 21-9.

Now, she faces off against Tracy Meyeridricks (Henley on Klip, SED) in what will be the match to watch following Meyeridricks eliminating Colleen Piketh 21-13.

Scheepers is on a collision course with her pairs partner Megan Ferreira - they are playing in the Last 16 of that event - should both players win at this phase.

Recent BSA Masters players Annelie de Jager also advanced where she faces experienced star Leone Du Rand (Harlequins) for a place in the quarter-finals.

At the bottom of the draw, another BSA Masters player Elma Louw (Mowbray) made it through for a match up against BGN provincial player Rolinda Fourie.

Another player to watch is the veteran Protea Sylvia Burns, who opted to play in the Open section rather than the Veterans. She is up against Colleen Meyer in a local derby as Mowbray contends against Somerset West.
